Becoming a Leadership Driven Company

What is the definition of Leadership? It’s the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations (Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner). There are Five Practices of Exemplary Leaders as defined by Kouzes and Posner:

Model the Way

Inspire a Shared Vision

Challenge the Process

Enable Others to Act

Encourage the Heart

So, what does it mean to become a “Leadership Driven Company”? To me it means that company personnel are practicing the five tenants shown above and that they have become part of the culture. It also means that the employees are engaged and that they believe that Leadership Is Their Business, not just the person they report to. Does this happen overnight? No! It’s a journey and a process and that’s what makes it so tough.

If you want to get better at golf, bowling, sewing, or any other learnable skill, you must practice and practice takes time. And time seems to be the one thing we least have at our disposal. When someone asks me, why do you feel so passionately about Leadership and becoming a Leadership Driven company and why should I care, my reply comes easily and quickly. Because it’s the right thing to do!
